OPT Reporting

As part of maintaining F-1 status during OPT, you must report all changes to your employment, address or immigration status within 10 days of occurrence.

Pre-Completion OPT

Use the OPT Reporting e-forms in MyGlobal to report:

  • EAD card received
  • Employment information

Normal processing time is 7 business days. We will email you after updating your SEVIS record.

Post-Completion OPT

When your OPT begins, SEVP will email instructions for creating a portal account. In most cases, the SEVP Portal is the fastest and easiest way to report.

Use the SEVP Portal to report:

  • Employment information
  • Address
  • Telephone

The information you report through the SEVP Portal will be updated in your SEVIS record overnight through an automated process. You do not need to also report the same information in MyGlobal.

Use the OPT Reporting e-forms in MyGlobal to report:

  • EAD card receipt
  • Change of status
  • Permanent departure from the U.S.
  • Employment start or end, if more than 10 days in the past

STEM OPT

During STEM OPT, you can still view employment but will only be able to use the SEVP Portal to report address and telephone changes. All other changes must be reported through the OPT Reporting e-forms in MyGlobal:

  • EAD card receipt
  • Validation reports – IMPORTANT Required every 6 months even if there are no changes.
  • Employment information – IMPORTANT All changes must include an updated I-983.
  • Change of status
  • Permanent departure from the U.S.

Frequently Asked Questions

Submit the Updated OPT I-20 e-form to request an updated I-20. Normal processing time is 7 business days. Make sure to submit your EAD card and report any employment information before requesting an updated I-20.

When your OPT begins, SEVP will send you an email from do-not-reply.sevp@ice.dhs.gov with instructions on creating a portal account. If you can't find the email, check your spam or junk mail folder.

  1. Report your employment information in the portal using today’s date as the start or end date. 
  2. After reporting in the portal, submit the actual start or end date in the the SEVP Portal Correction e-form so it can be manually corrected in your SEVIS record by a DSO.
