Childcare and Family Support

All children in Arizona starting from the age of 6 are entitled to free public education, regardless of immigration status. If your children are children younger than 6, or you need support outside of official school hours, you may plan to seek childcare.

The University of Arizona Childcare Resources

  • Childcare Choice: The university offers up to $2,000 in reimbursements for qualified childcare expenses for benefits-eligible employees and students.
  • Childcare Consultations: Childcare consultations are a shared, educational opportunity to discuss thoughtful issues and responsive strategies for identifying, assessing, and selecting childcare and enrichment experiences. You'll share your priorities regarding child care then explore types of childcare settings, licenses, good practices, and search tools available. Walk away with a plan and a list of tips on what to look for during a childcare search.
  • Sick and Back-Up Childcare: Sick and backup childcare services are available when there is an unexpected interruption in your regularly scheduled childcare. These services are designed to help support employees in fulfilling work-related commitments and students in fulfilling coursework-related commitments. The University of Arizona offers eligible employees and students up to 10 sick and backup childcare usages per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). Once registered, you can immediately begin using the program.

Additional Resources and Support

  • Adult & Elder Care Consultations: Caregiving takes many forms. Many of us help family members or friends who are sick, disabled, aging, or in need of other types of assistance. Consultations include a comprehensive review of your loved one's needs and a customized care plan.
  • Mothers of Color in Academia: This support group is for parents who identify as mothers of color and are students at the University of Arizona.
  • Parenting Consultations: Identify and develop appropriate parenting techniques consistent with your family's needs, values, and expectations to support your children's growth and development. Gain tools and strategies to help alleviate or solve behavioral issues. 
  • Parenting/Caregiver Workshops: Workshops on different approaches to parenting as well as those that address the unique needs of parents and caregive

Family-Friendly Spaces on Campus

  • Family Resource Map: Use this map to find details and locations for changing stations, family restrooms, lactation spaces, highchairs and adult changing stations. 
  • Family Study Room: Located on the 4th floor of the Weaver Library, the family study room provides a family-friendly study space for university student parents/guardians and their children.
