Study Abroad Scholarships
In addition to the regular financial aid and scholarships that often apply to study abroad, there is a range of specific scholarships designed to help make the study abroad experience affordable and accessible. Your eligibility for these scholarships is often determined by financial need, merit, identity, the location of your study abroad program, and/or the what you are studying. US-Japan Bridging Scholarship

The Bridging Project offers scholarships to American undergraduate students preparing to study abroad in Japan in a credit-bearing semester or academic-year program. In addition to receiving a cash stipend, Bridging Scholars participate in cohort programming designed to assist students build a future as a global citizen with a lifelong connection to Japan.
Qualifications:
1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and during the time they study abroad.
2. Students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply.
3. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite.
4. Students must study in a semester (at least 3 months) or an academic-year program in Japan and must earn credit that will transfer to their home campus in the U.S.
5. Students who have already begun their study abroad in Japan are not eligible to apply.
6. Scholarships must be used for tuition, travel, or daily cost-of-living expenses.
Scholarship Amounts:
1. Semester scholarship: $2,500 cash stipend.
2. Academic-year scholarship: $4,500 cash stipend.

For study abroad in the 2026–2027 Academic Year, Fall 26, and Spring 27 there will be one application deadline: March 15, 2026.

USA2Holland Internship Grant

The USA2Holland Internship Grant supports low-income U.S. college students and recent graduates in pursuing internships in the Netherlands. Eligible applicants must be at least 20 years old, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and receive a Pell Grant or demonstrate significant financial need. The program offers two tracks: the Summer Internship Track (up to 90 days) and the Career Internship Track (up to 6 months). Grant recipients may receive up to $10,000 total, including a $1,500 monthly stipend and $1,000 travel reimbursement. Applicants must secure or actively apply for an internship with a Dutch host organization and provide supporting documents, including a transcript, resume, recommendation letter, and proof of financial need.

Visa Initiative Student Assistance (VISA) Stipend
Award Amount: $500
The VISA (Visa Initiative Student Assistance) stipend provides $500 to help cover visa-related expenses for University of Arizona students studying abroad on eligible Arizona International programs. This stipend is intended to reduce financial barriers and make international experiences more accessible.
Eligibility
- Must be a currently enrolled, degree-seeking University of Arizona student in good academic standing.
- Must require a student visa to participate in an eligible study abroad program that does not offer a batch visa option through the Study Abroad office.
- Must be committed to a for-credit, in-person Arizona International Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange, or is at an Arizona Abroad Location
- Programs not eligible for this award: Programs that do not require student visas, programs with batch visa processing (e.g. UA Barcelona, UA Madrid, Spanish in Alcala, UA Rome, UA Florence & Conservation Field Studies: Namibia), non-UA Study Abroad Programs, Departmentally Managed Programs (DMP), fully funded programs, virtual programs and non-credit student travel abroad.
How to Apply
- Students can apply for the VISA stipend directly in their Via application of eligible Study Abroad programs.
- Students must upload an estimated budget of visa-related costs. Budgets provided should reflect reasonable and research-based estimates.
- The deadline to submit this form depends on the term you will be abroad. Students should apply early for the best chance of being selected.
- Summer: Mar. 15
- Fall and Academic Year: May 15
- Spring, Spring Break, Winter and Calendar Year: Nov. 15
Terms and Conditions
- This stipend is dependent on commitment to and completion of an eligible Arizona International Study Abroad program.
- This stipend is exclusively for expenses required to obtain a visa for study eligible programs. Visa waivers (e.g., ETIAS, ESTA) or other immigration-related fees are not eligible for this funding.
- If an awarded student withdraws from their study abroad program, the scholarship will be revoked.
- Award funds will be disbursed to the student’s Bursar account before study abroad program charges are due. Funds may be applied toward any outstanding balances.
- Students who receive the Garcia Family Foundation for Study Abroad Scholarship are ineligible to receive the VISA Stipend.
- Students may only receive this award once.
- Students receiving this award will be asked to participate in post-program feedback, promotional materials or events to help inform and inspire future study abroad students.

Volunteer Forever Travel Scholarship

Since 2014, Volunteer Forever has been offering a $500 to $1000 travel scholarship to help participants defray the cost of volunteering, studying, interning, teaching, or working abroad.
