Study Abroad Summit

The Study Abroad Summit is an interactive half-day event designed for faculty and staff who support global engagement and student success, especially those who have not yet worked with our team and are wanting to learn more. Whether you advise students, lead courses, or are interested in developing a faculty-led program, this summit will provide meaningful strategies and connections to enhance your work.

This summit is open to all University of Arizona faculty and staff who seek to support students in global learning and international experiences. Attendees are encouraged to come for the full event, but are welcome to attend as their schedule allows. The agenda includes:

  • 9:30 a.m. - Opening Remarks from President Garimella (Kachina Room)

    • President Garimella will open the summit with reflections on the role of study abroad at the University of Arizona, highlighting institutional priorities, and the collaborative effort needed across campus to expand access and participation.

  • 10 a.m. - Learning Tracks

    • Faculty Engagement in Study Abroad (Sabino Room)

      • This interactive session will explore pathways to engagement with study abroad, including how to develop faculty-led programs or support student participation in other meaningful ways. Faculty presenters will share brief insights from their experience leading programs and integrating study abroad into the curriculum, then join small groups for discussion and Q&A.

    • Advising Resources, Financial Access and Travel Literacy (Kachina Room)

      • Learn how Study Abroad builds resources for academic advisors to support students and connect them to opportunities. Additionally, explore Study Abroad efforts to reduce financial barriers and educate students on the basics of international travel, including passport and Visa education. We'll share data on how the Garcia Family Foundation Scholarship has transformed students' experiences and set the framework for Study Abroad to build new scholarships as well.

    • Marketing and Recruitment (Presidio Room)

      • This session explores how colleges and campus units can play a direct role in increasing study abroad participation through the moments they already own. We’ll share practical strategies, core messages, and ready-to-use approaches that help students see study abroad as possible, affordable, and part of their academic path.

  • 11:30 a.m. -  Contributing to Success for Every Student (Kachina Room)

    • Why is study abroad such an effective tool for student success? Studying abroad is a proven high impact practice and the University of Arizona's study abroad programs help students build transferable skills for their future professions. Learn about what study abroad looks like at the University of Arizona and what our alumni share about their post-study abroad career outcomes.

  • 12:30 p.m. - Student Panel and Lunch  (Kachina Room)

    • A student panel moderated by Jacob Eavis will offer an inside look at the study abroad experience from a student perspective. Participants will hear directly from students and have the opportunity to ask questions about their experiences, challenges, and takeaways.
