Plan with your Academic Advisor
Connecting with your Academic Advisor
Talk with your academic advisor as soon as you start thinking about study abroad. Early planning can help you choose the right program, stay on track for graduation, and make the most of your time abroad.
Your advisor can help you:
- Choose the best term for you to study abroad
- Identify which courses to take before, during, and after your program
- Review programs for academic fit, and determine which courses may satisfy graduation requirements
The earlier you start the conversation, the more options you will have.
Questions to ask your Academic Advisor
Although more specific questions will come up as you decide on a program and consider your particular situation, here are some recommended general questions:
- When is the best time for me to participate in study abroad?
- Does my major have any Global Tracks or faculty-led programs?
- What other graduation requirements can I fulfill abroad?
- How can I fit an international internship into my degree?
- Does my major department offer any scholarships that I can apply for?
