2025 Pell Educational Travel Stipend (PETS)

Arizona International Study Abroad will automatically award $500 to every eligible U of A student that receives a Federal Pell Grant who commits to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange, or Arizona Abroad Location. Study Abroad will determine your eligibility for the Pell Educational Travel Stipend based on the requirements outlined below upon committing to an eligible study abroad program. This stipend does not require an additional application.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Currently enrolled degree-seeking University of Arizona student.
  • Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange, or Arizona Abroad Location
    • Programs not eligible for this award: Non-UA Study Abroad Programs, Departmentally Managed Programs (DMP), Project GO, Dorrance, CAST, & Global Career Accelerator.
  • Pell Grant eligible during the term you are abroad as determined by your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Students are encouraged to also apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship to be eligible to receive an additional $500 Gilman Application Award.
  • Students may only receive the Pell Educational Travel Stipend one time and cannot receive the UA Travel Grant in the same term.  If students qualify for both, they will receive the UA Travel Grant award which offers a higher award amount. 
  • Award funds will disburse to committed students’ bursar accounts before study abroad program charges are due.
  • Must be willing to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from your study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by:
    • Volunteering at Study Abroad events such as the Study Abroad Fairs, Information Sessions, Gilman workshops or pre-departure meetings
    • Share about their international experience through our Study Abroad social media.
