Emergency Assistance During Office Closures

On this page: Emergency SupportNon-Emergency Immigration Support

Unexpected situations can happen at any time, and we want to ensure you have the resources you need when our office is unavailable. Our regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding holidays and university closures. While our team is here to assist you during these hours, we understand that emergencies may arise outside of this time.

Below, you’ll find information on how to access emergency support, including immigration, police, and medical assistance, as well as resources for non-urgent matters.

Emergency Support

Immigration Assistance

When our office is closed, we will only respond to immigration emergencies (for example, an issue at the U.S. Port of Entry). If you did not submit a timely request for a travel signature, this is not considered an emergency. You can find more information about travel signatures and receiving an I-515 on our Travel page. Non-urgent matters, such as routine questions or document requests, will be addressed when we return to the office.

If you or a U.S. Port of Entry officer needs to speak with someone immediately and our office is closed, you may call the University of Arizona Police Department at 520-621-8273 (621-UAPD). If it is determined that you have an immigration emergency, our office will be contacted. After contacting UAPD, please email dso@arizona.edu with your name, student ID, phone number, and a brief description of the emergency so we can confirm you received assistance.

In some emergency situations, you will need to contact an immigration attorney and your home country embassy or consulate.

Police Assistance

For any type of emergency, whether on or off campus, call 911. This includes situations involving personal safety, medical emergencies, or crimes.

  • If you’re on campus, identify your location as the University of Arizona to be connected to the University of Arizona Police Department (UAPD).
  • If calling from a cell phone, you’ll be routed to the local emergency response system.

When calling 911:

  • Stay calm, identify yourself, and explain the problem and your location clearly.
  • Remain on the line until the dispatcher tells you to hang up. If you must leave, inform the dispatcher where you can be reached.

For non-emergency police assistance, you can contact UAPD directly at 520-621-8273 (621-UAPD).

Medical and Mental Health Assistance

  • For life-threatening emergencies, always call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
  • For urgent but non-life-threatening medical concerns, visit an off-campus urgent care facility.
  • If you’re unsure what to do in a non-life-threatening situation, call the Campus Health After Hours Line for guidance from medical staff.

Travel Signatures

Review our Travel page for more information about the documents required to reenter the U.S. and any travel-related policy changes.

You can leave the U.S. without a travel signature; however, a valid travel signature is required for reentry. Travel signatures are valid for one year from the date signed (6 months for students on OPT). You do not need a new signature for each entry as long as the previous signature is still valid.

To request a travel signature, submit the Travel Signature e-form. Once ready, you can access your I-20/DS-2019 under the Documents tab (top right) in MyGlobal.

Reminder:

  • Before requesting a new travel signature, please check your current document. You can view current and previous copies of I-20s, DS-2019s, and other immigration documents uploaded in MyGlobal under the Documents tab (top right).

All Other Requests

We encourage you to review the information on our website for detailed information about maintaining status, enrollment, and employment. For the latest updates and information, please visit our Announcements page.

To submit a request, please complete the appropriate e-form in MyGlobal. You can find more details about requests and processing times on the Student Forms page. Please keep in mind that our processing times are based on business days and do not include weekends or university closures.

If you have additional questions, please meet with an international student advisor when our office reopens.
