Study Abroad Scholarships

In addition to the regular financial aid and scholarships that often apply to study abroad, there is a range of specific scholarships designed to help make the study abroad experience affordable and accessible, like the Garcia Family Foundation Scholarship for Study Abroad, and the Gilman Scholarship. Review all eligibility requirements carefully, and apply to those that are a good fit.

Arizona in Orvieto Classics Awards

Awards of up to $500 are available for any University of Arizona student enrolled in CLAS/RELI 305 and/or CLAS 335 through the Arizona in Orvieto, Italy Study Abroad Program. Priority will be given to majors or minors in the Department of Religious Studies & Classics, but all U of A students (with any major/minor) can apply. The number and amount of awards will be determined by the number and quality of applications received.

Additional monetary awards are available for majors in Classics, Religious Studies, and/or RSHP who are enrolled in CCLAS/RELI 305 and/or CLAS 335 through the Arizona in Orvieto, Italy Study Abroad Program. The number and amount of awards will be determined by the number and quality of applications received. Majors in the department will be considered for both the General Award and the Majors Award.

Cynthia White Travel & Study in Italy Award

For students enrolled in a UA Classics course while studying abroad in Italy. Several $250 travel awards are available for:

  • Explore Italy (Spring Break 2026): 1-unit CLAS 499 course using Italian cities as your text. Deadline: Nov. 15, 2025.

  • Arizona in Orvieto (Summer 2026): Mid-May to late June program. Deadline: Mar. 3, 2026.

Applicants must submit a 250-word statement describing what they hope to gain from the course and trip. Include your name, UA email, award name (“Cynthia White Award”), and study abroad program. Email materials to religious-studies-classics@arizona.edu with “Cynthia White Award Application” in the subject line.

Leo Roop Summer Career Paths Internship and Research Training Scholarships (RCPS)

This Scholarship supports top students to participate in special summer career path defining programs they could not ordinarily afford. These programs could include professional internships with NGOs, the private sector or government agencies. It could also include participation in research in Latin American, special training seminars or study abroad programs. This scholarship is for programs in Latin America.

Michael Bonine Memorial Travel & Research Award

The award will support undergraduate students' international summer travel important to their research or education, and the School of Middle Eastern and North African Studies (or affiliated) graduate students' travel to support their thesis or dissertation field research.

Explore the World Travel Scholarship

The HI USA Explore the World Travel Scholarship supports young Americans with financial need who want to gain meaningful international experiences. Each year, they award 15 scholarship recipients who receive $2,000 in funding to help cover the costs of an international trip that includes an educational or service-learning component. In addition to financial support, recipients participate in pre-travel programming and become part of a community of travelers committed to cultural exchange and global understanding.
