Independent Travel
Travel information will be obtained through the trip registration and arrangements will be evaluated to determine the risk level for each independent trip, according to the risks associated with the travel type, destination, and activities.
All travel requires Trip Registration and submission of a Travel Authorization form.
Travel determined Elevated Risk:
Travelers requiring Department Head/Director/Dean or Provost approval will receive a Trip Risk Assessment Report with information regarding activities, location, perceived vulnerabilities, threats, identified steps to mitigate risks, and recommendations for further risk mitigation.
The Department Head/Dean will receive the Trip Risk Assessment Report. Following the review, the Department Head/Dean will indicate a decision regarding the need to travel to the location(s) identified. Travel that is high risk must be considered essential. Travel that is extreme risk must be critical to ongoing projects, research, contracts, or grants.
All review and authorization of elevated risk travel must be balanced with consideration of the potential for and the likelihood of identified threats.
Travel requiring Provost approval will be reviewed by ITSOC, which will provide recommendations towards risk mitigation and Provost authorization.
Undergraduate Student travel determined elevated risk will be reviewed by ITSOC for recommendations, endorsed by the Department Head/Director, and receive final approval from the Provost.
Graduate Student travel to elevated risk destinations will be reviewed and approved by the Department Head/Director. ITSOC review or Provost approval may be requested. Travel to high or extreme risk destinations will be reviewed by ITSOC and receive a final determination from the Provost.
Faculty/Staff travel to high-risk destinations will be reviewed by ITSOC for recommendations. The Department Head/Director/Dean may provide final authorization unless review prompted additional concerns or the Department Head/Director/Dean requests final determination from the Provost.
The Provost will receive ITSOC recommendations as well as the Trip Risk Assessment Report and any other supporting documentation for review.
All travelers requiring Provost authorization will receive a letter of final decision via email.
All travelers to locations of Extreme Risk and some to locations of High Risk will work with International Travel to create an Emergency Plan and participate in a High-Risk Travel Brief.
Group Travel
Travel arrangements will be evaluated to determine the risk level for each trip, according to the risks associated with the travel type, destination, and activities. Anyone making travel arrangements on behalf of the travel group needs to participate in a Health & Safety Overview to review expectations and requirements for serving in this capacity.
Group Trips requiring Department Head/Dean or Provost approval will receive a Trip Risk Assessment Report with information regarding activities, location, perceived vulnerabilities, threats, identified steps to mitigate risks, and recommendations for further risk mitigation.
The Department Head/Dean will receive the Trip Risk Assessment Report. Following the review, the Department Head/Dean will indicate a decision regarding the need to travel to the location(s) identified. Travel that is high risk must be considered essential. Travel that is extreme risk must be limited to employees and graduate students and critical to ongoing projects, research, contracts, or grants.

Program arrangements will be initially evaluated to determine the risk level for each trip, according to the risks associated with the destination and activities.
Program Leads or students participating on Student Exchanges requiring Department Head/Dean or Provost approval will receive a Trip Risk Assessment Report with information regarding activities, location, perceived vulnerabilities, threats, identified steps to mitigate risks, and recommendations for further risk mitigation.
The Department Head/Dean will receive the Trip Risk Assessment Report. Following the review, the Department Head/Dean will indicate a decision regarding the program travel to the location(s) identified. Program travel to locations that are high risk must be considered essential to the academic success of the program.
Only programs specifically for graduate students may consider travel to locations of extreme risk and must be considered critical to ongoing projects, research, contracts, or grants.
