Travel may be grounded, but the dream of global education and cultural exchange still inspires.

When the coronavirus threw a wrench into everyone’s spring semester, the University of Arizona Study Abroad and Global Travel offices worked around the clock to bring students home from locations across the globe. Throughout March and April, both teams tapped into a robust system of support, coordination, and communication, creating a COVID-19 Study Abroad FAQ page and moving all of advising and information sessions to virtual events.

The University of Arizona is launching an unprecedented and transformational Global programs across five continents in 34 countries, partnering with top universities to provide a world-class University of Arizona education.  

Students can study at University of Arizona locations on university campuses or live and study in purpose-built residential communities through a partnership with GSA, a global leader in student accommodations. The launch of the new Arizona Global network is particularly timely given the pandemic, and will provide a new model of affordable, high-quality education for students everywhere.

University of Arizona Health Sciences and University of Arizona Global, working together as part of the University’s Strategic Plan, take action to expand Health Sciences education beyond the United States. In her new roles, Dr. Gregorio will be a key leader responsible for coordinating our interprofessional Health Sciences Global and Online programs, and working closely with the five Health Sciences College Deans.

Classes convened for CAPLA’s first microcampus program on March 26, 2020, a unique marrying of UArizona’s BS in Sustainable Built Environments with UPC’s Bachelor of Architecture.

Wonder took Aria to Guatemala, where she strengthened her Spanish language skills and deepened her passion for human rights, justice, and migration. 

When he arrived in Tucson for the first time, Ryan had big plans for his future. From an early age, he intuitively understood that opportunities are created through networking. As a self-proclaimed introvert, he also knew that he would have to leave his comfort zone, take chances, and push his own boundaries in order to create the life he wanted. Ryan combined his goals into an ambitious plan to do something that even the most outgoing personality might find challenging: to have fifteen conversations with fifteen different people every day. 

He dreamed of becoming a student-athlete in the United States, where the NCAA system would provide him with the chance to work with world-class athletes and coaches while he pursued both athletics and engineering. “I was 18 when I got here,” he said. “I knew nobody. I just took my suitcase to the States.”  Eventually, fate brought Almarhoun to Tucson, and he fell in love with the University of Arizona campus. He loved the weather, the cost of living, and how easy it was to get around. He transferred to UArizona in 2016 and soon bonded with his track teammates and fellow engineering students.
