Denise joined Counseling & Psychological Services in May 2022 where she currently serves as an on-site counselor for International Student Services. Her expertise includes concerns related to mental health issues impacting international students during their tenure at UA. She provides confidential consultations, individual therapy, group therapy, outreach and presentations for students, staff, and faculty. Denise is a Licensed Master Social Worker in Arizona and has been practicing counseling and social work for the past 14 years with adolescents, families, and the community. She has over nine years of experience in academia. 

Denise is from San Antonio, Texas. She has her Bachelor of Social Work (2006) and Master of Social Work (2007) from Texas State University with a focus in direct practice. She also served in the United States Air Force from 1995-2002 as a human resource specialist to help military personnel achieve their long-term career goals. Her clinical work focuses on life transitions, trauma, grief and loss, crisis support, anxiety and depression, and LGBTQIA+ support. Her work is based upon Relational-Cultural Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Strengths Based perspective with a humanistic and critical race theory lens. She believes that the client is the expert on their own life and strives to connect with clients authentically.
