Arizona Global welcomes UA Phnom Penh and UA Jakarta microcampus students on the main campus for their Study Arizona semester
On June 6, 2022, the University of Arizona Global Education team hosted a welcome party to introduce these students from Cambodia and Indonesia to Tucson and the University of Arizona’s main campus.
“I am so proud of these students - they made the decision to study in a different country and I’m sure this will be a great experience for them. I believe every student should take this opportunity to study abroad,” said Thuy Nguyen, UA Phnom Penh’s location manager.
The event was held at Gentle Ben’s Brewing, a student favorite restaurant on University Boulevard.
The students enjoyed their first taste of local Mexican food, including mini chimichangas, quesadillas and guacamole. “The mini chimichangas are amazing. I already love it here!” several students were overheard saying.
"I love seeing the UA Jakarta students finally here in Arizona! Their excitement means so much to me and gets me just as excited! They are so far from home, and it will be a long summer, but there will be so much growth for all of them—it's going to be GREAT!” said Amanda Agate, UA Jakarta location manager and coordinator of Global Student Engagement., “I am already so proud of them and can't wait to follow along on this journey with them!”
Wilbur Wildcat joined the students party to take some photos and add his signature mischief and fun to the event.
Program Coordinator Bailey Stout announced the winners of the Raffle raffle prizes and the students were thrilled by the prizes, which included “ A” water bottles, totes, chains with wallets and portable fans.
“ I tried to choose prizes that made students feel like Wildcats, whether they're in Tucson or on their home institution's campus. I also made sure that we were giving functional items, the kind of things you love using!” said Stout.
Every year, hundreds of international students in microcampus dual degree and Global Direct online degree programs come to the University of Arizona main campus in Tucson, Arizona to study abroad for a semester. It is an opportunity to learn in person with their Arizona professors, and students get a taste of life in the United States. It also is a wonderful way to connect with their peers from the U.S. and around the world and get that much-sought-after all-American college campus experience.
