Women's History Month Feature: Dana Bleau, J.D.
March is Women’s History Month, and we’re proud to introduce you to some of the interesting and notable international students, scholars, faculty, and staff at Arizona Global.
Dana Bleau, J.D. is the Executive Director of International Faculty & Scholars (IFS) at the University of Arizona and Executive Director of Employee Immigration Services & Compliance, also overseeing the U.S. Passports Office on campus. In her eighteen years working exclusively in immigration law in higher education, Bleau has helped make it possible for thousands of international faculty and scholars – including Fulbright Scholars – to come to our campus in Tucson, Arizona, for their education, their research, and to teach.
The University of Arizona currently hosts on average around 1,300 international faculty members and scholars annually from more than 80 countries and provides support through the Global Center and IFS programs.
In 2018, Bleau created the International Scholar Academy, an annual leadership and professional development seminar series hosted by IFS for visiting international scholars who have come to the University of Arizona to engage in research, training, and scholarly exchange.
Bleau and her team have worked diligently throughout the pandemic, addressing the unique travel, legal status and immigration needs of international faculty and scholars, and the team is currently working with those affected by the war in Ukraine.
“The value and impact of our international scholars are immeasurable,” says Bleau. “I truly believe they energize our students and faculty to think boldly, to think globally. Together we are redefining the international experience.”
Bleau has dedicated her career to making it possible for people from around the world to bring their new ideas and international perspectives to the University of Arizona, enriching and elevating our daily discourse and helping us all become better global citizens.
