In May, Dr. Iman Hakim, Dean of the Zuckerman College of Public Health, traveled to Peru to join Dr. Gabriela Valdez, Director of Global Education for the college, and Justin Dutram, Assistant Vice President of Mexico and Latin America at the University of Arizona, and meet with leadership from the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC) in Lima, Peru. Representatives from both institutions discussed potential collaborations in the fields of public health and health sciences, and advanced plans for a dual degree program.

Dr. Edward Roekaert, UPC Rector, and Dr. Pascual Chiarella, UPC Dean of Health Sciences, hosted a series of dynamic meetings with UPC Directors of Health Sciences Programs and the UArizona delegation to discuss the possibility of offering public health dual degree programs in the fields of medicine, nutritional science, physical therapy, veterinary medicine, and nursing. The University of Arizona and UPC have collaborated over the past six years, establishing successful partnerships in the areas of business, communication, psychology, and engineering. The two universities hope to expand their collaboration into public health and aim to launch a dual degree BS in Public Health with UPC in March of 2026.
