Lee conceived the series to highlight ways that international perspectives and opportunities permeate throughout the U of A while highlighting AZI’s role as a key resource for global engagement across campus.

“The University of Arizona is home to so many leaders whose international backgrounds and experiences have profoundly shaped their careers and the way they approach education and research,” Lee said. “Through International Exchange, I want to bring those stories to the forefront—showing not only their personal journeys but also why international education matters at every level of our institution.”

The inaugural episode features Dr. Karthik Kannan, dean and Halle Chair in Leadership of the Eller College of Management, who shares his journey from a small town in Tamil Nadu, India, to leading one of the top business schools in the United States. Kannan, whose family has a long legacy in education, discusses the challenges and opportunities he encountered as an international student in the U.S., including cultural adjustments, academic transitions, and the importance of building a strong community abroad.

During the conversation, Kannan reflects on his personal experiences and how they shape his leadership at Eller College, where international education plays a significant role. He also highlights the college’s global engagement, including study abroad opportunities, international microcampuses, and the evolving demands of business education in a rapidly globalizing economy.

Lee noted that sharing stories like Kannan’s can help international students feel seen and understood while reinforcing the university’s commitment to fostering global connections.

“Many international students face challenges that go beyond academics—homesickness, financial pressures, and cultural adaptation are all part of their journey,” Lee said. “Hearing from university leaders who have walked a similar path can be incredibly reassuring and inspiring.”

International Exchange is available on Arizona International’s YouTube channel and website. Future episodes will continue to highlight campus leaders who bring a global perspective to their work at the U of A, reinforcing the university’s dedication to international education and collaboration.
