Gilman Application Award
UA Study Abroad will award a $500 scholarship to all committed study abroad students who apply to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship regardless of Gilman award status.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled degree-seeking University of Arizona student in good academic standing
- Currently applying or accepted to an eligible UA Study Abroad program (Faculty-led, Exchange or Arizona Abroad Location). Non-UA Study Abroad Programs and Departmentally Managed Programs are not eligible.
- Must have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year and be Pell Grant eligible at the time of application to UA Study Abroad program and Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship.
- Meet the eligibility requirements to apply for the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship or Gilman McCain Scholarship.
- Must fully complete and submit the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships application.
- Must commit to UA Study abroad program prior to the disbursement of funds.
- May only receive the Gilman Application Award once.
- Must be willing to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from your study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by:
- Volunteering at Study Abroad events such as the Study Abroad Fairs, Information Sessions, Gilman workshops or pre-departure meetings
- Share about their international experience through our Study Abroad social media.
The UA Study Abroad Travel Grant
The UA Study Abroad office will automatically determine your eligibility for the Travel Grant upon starting a study abroad application and does not require an additional application. Priority is given to study abroad students who demonstrate financial need and have a current FAFSA on file. Travel Grants are awarded at $1,000 for semester programs, $500 for summer, $250 for winter and spring break programs.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled degree-seeking University of Arizona student
- Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange or attending an Arizona Abroad Location. Non-UA Study Abroad Programs and Departmentally Managed Programs are not eligible.
- Have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year and have an Estimated Family Contribution of less than 8,000
- Must not have received the Travel Grant previously
- Must be willing to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from your study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by choosing an option below.
- Volunteering at Study Abroad events such as the Study Abroad Fairs, Information Sessions, scholarship workshops or pre-departure meetings
- Share about their international experience through our Study Abroad social media.
The UA Study Abroad Embark Scholarship
The UA Study Abroad office will automatically determine your eligibility for the Embark scholarship upon starting a study abroad application and does not require an additional application. Students must have a current FAFSA on file. Priority is given to study abroad students who are Pell Grant recipients, First Generation College students, first time international travelers, and student veterans. Embark Scholarships are awarded at $1,000 for semester programs, $500 for summer, $250 for winter and spring break programs.

- Must not have received the Travel Grant previously

Allison Feldman Memorial Study Abroad Scholarship
The UA Study Abroad Office will automatically determine your eligibility for the Allison Feldman Memorial Scholarship upon starting a study abroad application and does not require an additional application. Priority is given to study abroad students who demonstrate financial need and have a current FAFSA on file.
University of Arizona graduate and UA Study Abroad alumna Allison Feldman passed away at 31 years old. Her family and friends created an endowment in her name to memorialize her transformative study abroad experience in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, in 2004. Her father encouraged Allison to study abroad, and says she returned to the U.S. more confident, excited about life, and a fluent Spanish speaker. He and Allison’s mother, along with close friends, hope to honor her memory by providing study abroad opportunities to deserving UA students. Award amounts vary (minimum amount is $500), eligible to be used towards Spring semester or calendar year study abroad programs.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Currently enrolled degree-seeking University of Arizona sophomores, juniors, or seniors
- Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange or attending an Arizona Abroad Location. Non-UA Study Abroad Programs and Departmentally Managed Programs are not eligible.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Must participate in a study abroad program during which you will enroll in full-time equivalency during your term abroad
- Have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year
Renee Griggs Study Abroad Scholarship
The UA Study Abroad Office will automatically determine your eligibility for the Renee Griggs Study Abroad Scholarship upon starting a study abroad application and does not require an additional application. Priority is given to study abroad students who demonstrate financial need and have a current FAFSA on file.
For over 42 years, Renee Griggs put her heart and soul into advocating for all students who expressed an interest in studying abroad at the University of Arizona. During her career in the field of international education, Renee provided guidance and support to over 7,000 students as they prepared to study abroad.
The Renee Griggs Study Abroad Award was established in 2022 to recognize Renee’s enduring commitment to expand access and remove barriers for UArizona students to empower and encourage participation in study abroad opportunities. This scholarship was created to honor Renee's legacy: to provide a path for students to have a life-changing opportunity to explore the world. Award amount will be $1000 eligible to be used towards Fall or Academic Year Study Abroad Programs.

- Currently enrolled degree-seeking University of Arizona student
- Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange or attending an Arizona Abroad Location. Non-UA Study Abroad Programs and Departmentally Managed Programs are not eligible.
- Have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year and have an Estimated Family Contribution of less than $8,000
- Preference given to first generation and Arizona residents
- Must not have received the Travel Grant previously
- (Optional) Study Abroad would appreciate your help to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from their study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by choosing an option below.
- Volunteering at the Study Abroad Fair, workshops or events
- UA Study Abroad Marketeer (work under direction of study abroad to develop/deliver marketing materials or information)
Donna Swaim Travel Scholarship
The UA Study Abroad Office will automatically determine your eligibility for the Donna Swaim Travel Scholarship upon starting a study abroad application and does not require an additional application. Priority is given to study abroad students who demonstrate financial need and have a current FAFSA on file.
Professor Donna Swaim was “a revered teacher and mentor whose 50-year University of Arizona career stretched broadly across campus, from humanities to medicine to athletics, and included trips to dozens of countries for student study abroad.” Donna Swaim led one of the first University of Arizona study abroad programs 1979 and that was only the beginning! During her career at UArizona, Professor Swaim led students on 24 trips abroad that spanned over 36 countries.
This Study Abroad Award was established to Honor Professor Donna Swaim’s legacy, dedication, and service and to encourage students to participate in international experiences. Award amount will be $500 eligible to be used toward Summer study abroad programs.

- Currently applying to a UA Study Abroad program that is faculty-led, exchange or attending an Arizona Abroad Location (Preference given to students on Faculty-led programs). Non-UA Study Abroad Programs and Departmentally Managed Programs are not eligible.
- Have a FAFSA on file in the current academic year and have an Estimated Family Contribution of less than $8,000
- Must not have received the Travel Grant previously
- Must be willing to help promote study abroad at the University of Arizona or the greater community upon your return. After returning from their study abroad program, students are required to fulfill 5 hours of service by choosing an option below.
