As we close the Fall 2021 semester, the University of Arizona celebrates the 127 students that graduate from programs at our UA Microcampus locations — from UA Amman, UA Jakarta, UA Qingdao, UA Phnom Penh, UA Lima, and UA Ajman.

We especially wanted to recognize our first graduating class from UArizona + Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC). These 49 students are graduating this week with majors including Sustainable Built Environments, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Communication, and Philosophy, Economics, Politics, and Law.

On Thursday, December 16, 2021, the University of Arizona hosted a celebratory event on the rooftop patio of the ENR2 building for the UPC students and their friends and family. Along with the stunning rooftop views, guests enjoyed refreshments and appetizers — including an impressive charcuterie board — catered by Arizona Student Unions. Maria Fernanda Quispe Cruces, a communication student in the University of Arizona's College of Social & Behavioral Sciences who flew to Arizona for the occasion said, "It’s been less than 24 hours since I got here, and I already love Arizona! I am so excited to graduate here."

This event was also attended by the Dean of the College of Social and Behavior Sciences, Dr. John Paul Jones III, along with leadership and staff from Arizona Global, International Admissions, and faculty from various academic departments.

In his speech to the graduates, Dean Jones remarked on how wonderful it has been to collaborate with UPC on these dual degree programs.

Representing UPC at the event was special guest and Rector of Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas, Edward Roekart, who addressed the students and congratulated them for achieving this milestone. Also in attendance was the Dean of UPC’s School of Communication, Ursula Freundt, who said, “We are so proud of this class.”

In his closing remarks to the students, Assistant Vice President for Mexico Initiatives Justin Dutram said, “We hope for you all to succeed, and we know you will! We are looking forward to seeing all your journeys!” Dutram thanked Director of Latin American Programs Lissette Calderón and her team for organizing the graduation event.

Arizona Global would like to congratulate and give best wishes to the students as they begin their new adventures!
