Embarking on a journey to study abroad can be both an exhilarating and a daunting experience. The Study Arizona team recognized this and organized an orientation for the dual degree students from Sampoerna University, Indonesia, and the American University of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to ease their worries and excite them about the program. These students are currently on the University of Arizona campus in Tucson where they are taking in-person courses in Economics, Management Information Systems, and Molecular Cellular Biology.  The Study Arizona program is open to all microcampus students wanting to study abroad at the main UArizona campus for a semester.

“We are so pleased to have these students at the main campus,” said Senior Associate Director of International Education Rudo Sandy. “I am excited for them to take full advantage of the opportunities here, make friends, and have a memorable term.”

The orientation, which took place on June 5, aimed to provide students with the necessary tools, knowledge, and support to navigate their academic and cultural endeavors on the University of Arizona’s diverse and vibrant Tucson campus.

As part of the program, Study Arizona Program Coordinator, Valentino Lugo led a variety of informative sessions and fun activities. During the sessions, students learned about immigration regulations, campus health, safety, and travel resources. Additionally, Senior Program Manager of International Curriculum, Jennifer Koehmsedt provided valuable insights into student support resources and key dates for adding and dropping classes.

The students then had the opportunity to mix and mingle while they enjoyed Mexican food catered by Gentle Ben's Brewing, which included mini chimichangas, quesadillas, vegetable platter, and cookies.

At the conclusion of the day, students left with a greater understanding of available resources and support. The Study Arizona program orientation helped them feel prepared to embrace opportunities and challenges they may encounter during their time on the UArizona campus.

The Arizona International team would like to extend a warm welcome to all the international students who have joined us on the UArizona campus this summer.
