Study Abroad Marketing & Communications Intern and Two-Time Study Abroad Participant Sarah Dillon is graduating Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a bachelor's degree in Marketing and minor in Journalism. As she prepares to graduate and begin a new chapter in her life, she reflects on her experience at the University of Arizona and her time supporting the Study Abroad Team during this past academic year.

Why U of A?

My parents, grandparents, and other family members all went to the U of A, so I had known about the school and Tucson before becoming a student here. After getting a great scholarship and taking an official campus tour, I knew it was the perfect fit for me. One of the big deciding factors that led to me choosing this school was all of the opportunities to study abroad!

What was you favorite part about attending the University of Arizona?

My favorite part about attending the University of Arizona was all of the amazing opportunities I had to get involved in different organizations and communities on campus. From the Eller College to my sorority and my role as an Arizona Ambassador, I am grateful to have formed so many meaningful connections during my time here. Additionally, getting to participate in two study abroad programs was an unforgettable part of my experience at the University of Arizona!

What was your favorite part about being an intern in the Study Abroad office?

My favorite part of this position has definitely been working with the social media team! I love collaborating on new ideas, creating graphics, and seeing the content our social media ambassadors share from the different programs. It’s been really rewarding to promote the study abroad experience to prospective students and continue to share my own.

How does this role fit into your future career goals?

As a Marketing major, this role helped me build strong communication and content creation skills while learning how to run a branded, professional social media page. I enjoyed getting to interact with our student ambassadors across different study abroad locations and was able to incorporate my writing skills in some published articles. Overall, this role gave me great professional experience that I can apply to my future career.

What are your plans for after graduation?

I will be moving back to my hometown in San Diego, CA, and starting my career with Thermo Fisher Scientific as a Project Coordinator! I am super excited to grow my skills in project management and branding within the Talent Acquisition department. In the future, I would love to explore a career that allows me to work in international environments to continue traveling and building global connections.

Final Thoughts

I am extremely thankful for the opportunity to have worked with the Study Abroad team this year! It was a great way to wrap up my time at the U of A and reflect on how meaningful my own study aboard experience was.

Thanks, Sarah! Congratulations!
