Larizah on Location: A Study Abroad Blog

Hi everyone!

My name is Larizah Plaza, and as a student worker in the U of A Study Abroad Office, I’ve helped students begin their global journeys. Now, I’m experiencing one of my own in Madrid! I’m grateful to live this full-circle moment and excited to share my adventures with you.

This semester, I’m studying abroad in Spain through the University of Arizona’s UA Madrid program. I’m currently majoring in Economics and plan to graduate in May 2028. I love meeting new people, immersing myself in different languages and cultures, and saying yes to a good side quest along the way.

I’m especially passionate about exploring new places through their art and history, which ultimately led me to choose Madrid from the many incredible locations U of A Study Abroad has to offer. I was looking for a program that would allow me to take rigorous economics courses while also exploring subjects in the humanities, making my academic experience both challenging and culturally enriching. After graduation, I hope to pursue a master’s degree in International Relations, with the ultimate goal of working in a cultural heritage organization someday.

I like to think that adaptability is one of the greatest strengths you can cultivate. Immersing yourself in new cultures teaches you to be comfortable in the uncomfortable. During my time abroad, I hope to grow not only as a student and traveler but also as a person. I know this experience will stay with me for a lifetime, and I plan to savor every moment with gratitude.

As I embark on this new adventure, I’ll be sharing my peers’ and my experiences living in Spain, as well as the ins and outs of studying abroad. Follow along as I share what it’s like to go from supporting study abroad to living it!
