Participants in the exchange program at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg primarily enroll in courses offered through University College Freiburg. Click here to view the most recent UCF course catalog and student handbook. A full-time course load is 30 ECTS per semester.
To qualify to take courses taught in German, students will need to demonstrate a B2 to C1 level according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages. Qualified applicants may take courses from all departments EXCEPT: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Molecular Medicine, and Psychology. Click here to view Uni Freiburg's full course catalog.

It is recommended that students possess some German language proficiency prior to arrival.
Summer and Winter University:
Participants have the opportunity to enroll in an optional pre-semester German language and culture program offered prior to both semesters through Uni Freiburg's Summer and Winter University. Enrollment in this program is not included in program fees.

Situated in Southwestern Germany between the Rhine River and Black Forest, Freiburg – which turned 900 in 2020 – is widely known for its vibrant cultural scene, pleasant climate (the sun shines more there than almost anywhere else in Germany), its bike- and walkability transportation, and for being a historical city with a young vibe. Freiburg is known as the "Green City" as it is one of the birthplaces of the environmental movement and local politics are driven by sustainability and climate protection. Freiburg is located in the "border triangle" between France and Switzerland, which contributes to the city’s global culture.

Fall
Fall Semester, called Wintersemester in Germany, runs from mid October through February.
The Wintersemester ends after the UArizona Spring Semester begins, so students are advised to participate in this program for the entire academic year, or plan on enrolling in 2nd 7-week session spring courses.
Spring
Spring Semester, called Sommersemester in Germany, runs from early April through September.
Course instruction ends in late July, and final exams are scheduled in late July or early to mid August.
Semester Cost
- $50 Study Abroad Application Fee
- Mandatory Geo Blue International Health Insurance at a rate of $3 a day (approximately $360 a semester)
- You pay Main Campus UArizona Tuition & Fees to do an exchange and receive all of the financial aid you use on main campus.

- Other estimated costs include but not limited to housing, transportation (air & local), visa, meals, books and supplies, local health insurance, etc.
