Explore Programs in Europe

Verona, Italy

UArizona programs in Europe offer students a chance to experience the rich history and cultures of this diverse continent. From the cobblestone streets of London, to the winding canals of Venice, to the ski slopes of the Alps, Europe has endless opportunities for exploration and adventure. It’s no surprise that Europe is one of the most popular destinations for study abroad.

Program Types

Arizona Abroad Locations
Students study abroad at UA locations at partner universities across the world and pay their regular UA tuition. Participants are also registered and billed for international health insurance. Students can choose from a variety of courses at each destination including those taught by on-site UA faculty, partner university courses, and UA i-courses.

Faculty-Led
Programs organized and/or taught by UA professors and staff. Students take classes with other UA students. Participants earn direct UA credit, which means grades received are calculated into the UA GPA. Participants are billed for UA tuition, international health insurance, and a program fee for logistical expenses.

Exchange
Students attend one of UA's partner institutions abroad for a semester or academic year and attend classes with a mix of local and international students. Participants pay the equivalent of UA tuition and earn transfer credit, which does not affect the UA GPA. Participants are also registered and billed for international health insurance. Please note: space is limited on some exchanges, so apply early!

Located just north of Marseille in southern France and near the Mediterranean Sea, Aix-en-Provence offers the quintessential French experience with historic architecture, hilltop scenery, and exquisite food. A quaint university town and bohemian intellectual center—artist Paul Cézanne and writer Ernest Hemingway once frequented its charming cafes. Fall in love with mountain views, tree-lined streets, and ornate foundations without the crowds of larger European cities. Take a flight to Paris or a train through the countryside for a weekend away.

Founded in 1457, the University of Freiburg has a long tradition of teaching and research in a wide range of academic fields, from the humanities, natural sciences and engineering, to medicine, law, and theology. Roughly 25,000 students from all over the world are enrolled, studying right in the heart of the city where most of the university’s buildings are located, deeply connecting the university to the local community.

Situated in Southwestern Germany between the fabled Rhine River and the mighty Black Forest, Freiburg – which turned 900 years old in 2020 – is widely known for many reasons: its vibrant cultural scene, its popularity among travelers, its weather (the sun shines more than almost anywhere else in Germany), its primary mode of transportation (bikes), and for being an old city but a young student town at the same time. Above all else, Freiburg is internationally known as the „Green City“: one of the birthplaces of the environmental movement, Freiburg’s economy and politics are driven by sustainability and climate protection.

Freiburg’s location in the border triangle between France and Switzerland not only shapes the city’s and the region‘s culture, but also creates a unique opportunity for academic and scientific life: the University of Freiburg is part of the European Campus, a trinational alliance that allows students to take classes at all five member universities across the three countries.

What is amAZing about Europe?

  • Travel is easy within the continent. Students with busy schedules and a tight budget can find cheap options whether by plane, train, or bus. You can find yourself in a completely different country within a couple of hours.
  • UArizona programs in Europe have courses available to accommodate many majors and minors. Students who choose to study a language can truly immerse themselves, while there are also plenty of courses taught in English. A variety of research programs are also offered during the summer for STEM students.
  • The history! Many of the best museums with timeless art and relics can be found in Europe, along with medieval castles, cathedrals, and historical ruins.
  • Europe has a diverse cuisine for every palate. Whether fish and chips is your cup of tea or herring with chopped onions, you can bet that many culinary delights await you. Festivals are also popular in Europe and a great way to sample the local fare.
  • Experiences you’ll remember forever. Eat churros with hot chocolate in Barcelona, smile at Mona Lisa in the Louvre, climb the steps of Castelgrande. Contact a Study Abroad Coordinator to get started on your journey!
