The project, run by the University of Perugia, gives ten US students the chance to participate in this amazing experience. The excavation is an excellent introduction to archaeological digs as well as very useful experience for more advanced students. Students will learn both beginning and advanced techniques in archaeological research by performing as part of a research team. Archaeological survey, mapping, excavation, and laboratory techniques will be learned. Students will perform all functions of the field school, including manual labor, recording, and data synthesis.
On a typical day, the crew leaves for the site at 7:20 AM, breaking for a hour and a half between 12:30 and 2:00 and then goes back to the site until 5:00 p.m. Friday is normally the last week digging day, leaving the weekend free for field trips or resting periods. This schedule may vary due to weather conditions or changed dig organization
