Paris:
empire + colony| diasporas + assembliesThe vibrancy and diversity of the city of Paris is a microcosm of France and its overseas departments and territories (DOM TOM). The peoples, lands and resources of the DOM TOM remain entangled with France as vestiges of former colonies, as do now-independent formerly colonies such as Algeria and Senegal. These regions have all provided France with a wealth of resources, materials, and cultural practices that are inseparable from what constitutes France and French culture today. However, while the world has long celebrated French culture, from cuisine to couture, art, architecture and public spaces of assembly, rarely do we interrogate from where they originate and how they came to be, nor do we question these from both aesthetic and ethical perspectives—particularly vis-à-vis colony.
This six-credit summer program dives deeply into these burning and timely questions.

Want to experience a semester at a different university campus within the United States as part of your college experience? The National Student Exchange (NSE) may be the perfect program for you. NSE includes nearly 200 colleges and universities in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U. S. Virgin Islands and all the aid you receive here at the University of Arizona can be used at a NSE partner institution! When visiting the NSE website and searching through the numerous institutions to choose from (including universities in Hawaii, Puerto Rico, et cetera), you will learn why more than 100,000 students have taken advantage of this opportunity since NSE’s founding in 1968.

Arizona Abroad Locations
Students study abroad at UA locations through our partner universities across the world and pay their regular UA tuition. Participants are also registered and billed for international health insurance. Students can choose from a variety of courses at each destination including those taught by on-site UA faculty, partner university courses, and, in certain cases, UA i-courses.
Faculty-Led
Programs organized and/or taught by UA professors and staff. Students take classes with other UA students. Participants earn direct UA credit, which means grades received are calculated into the UA GPA. Participants are billed for UA tuition, international health insurance, and a program fee for logistical expenses.
Exchange
Students attend one of UA's partner institutions abroad for a semester or academic year and attend classes with a mix of local and international students. Participants pay the equivalent of UA tuition and earn transfer credit, which does not affect the UA GPA. Participants are also registered and billed for international health insurance. Please note: space is limited on some exchanges, so apply early!
Non-UA Programs
Study abroad programs are also available from non-UA providers if none of the UA Study Abroad programs meet your needs. Please click here for more information about non-UA programs.
